Neil’s journey with basketball began in grade 7, and he continued to play throughout his high school years at Pasadena Academy, located on the west coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. During that period, he developed a deep appreciation for the sport, learning the value of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance both on and off the court.

When Neil had children of his own who then started playing basketball, he was inspired to transition from player to coach. This opportunity allowed him to reconnect with his passion for the game from a new perspective. Coaching youth basketball has been incredibly rewarding, as it has enabled him to contribute to the development of young athletes and foster a positive sporting environment.

As a coach, he places a strong emphasis on skill development, encouraging athletes to continually refine their abilities through dedicated practice and hard work. Equally important to Neil, is the cultivation of character; he strives to instil values such as respect, integrity, and resilience in his players. His goal is to help them grow not only as athletes but also as individuals; preparing them to face challenges both within the sport and in their everyday lives.
